I’m Timothy Steele and have been teaching English to speakers of other languages both in England and abroad over the past ten years. I love learning about the countries and cultures of the students I meet and getting to know them better as individuals. On many occasions I’ve been privileged to have my wife and children as an integral part of the courses I’ve run – joining at meals, organised trips and during down-time. We have found that when students get to know a teacher outside of class, particularly around his or her own family, their own inhibitions are also eased. The very central tenets of my teaching philosophy are:
- integrating receptive and productive skills
- developing learner autonomy
- using a mixed-methods approach
- bringing the every-day into the classroom through realia and technology
- facilitating learner interaction
